This cute little polar bear cub was rejected by his mother in a Berlin zoo. His name is Knut, and he's taking Germany (and the world) with storm. He gained international fame when a animal activist said that they should kill the cub rather then have humans handfeed it. Click here for the wikipedia page on Knut.

Maybe the animal activists should be euthanized rather than be infected with human contact.

it's "than", not "then", as in "I'd rather save the cub now than then." Read something once in a while. Keep the language from extinction.

He is sooo cute! How could that guy want to kill it?

The life you save today may be your own tomorrow. Good job! I would have done the same.

What a sick bastard. If they can raise that bear then they should. He has made it this far. It is rare that anything makes it that long. By doing this they are also protecting the species. He is so cute! What kind of person is that man to want to kill him? Who is he to take that little baby's life?

Goodness what sweet little baby. I guess the activists think that life is worthless and not worth living. Sad, isn't it? He definitely deserves to live, there is just no question about it. Knut is just adorable. *hugs Knut*

protecting the species would be never having gotten involved in the first place... creating the situation the baby bear was born into... humanity's got it all wrong, and we'll pay the price soon. cute effin cub though!

OK, so I many sides of this situation. The species is very endangered by man's acceleration of the global warming cycle (watch the planet earth series on discovery...the one where they discus the north and south poles)for a more visual look at what man is doing to these animals. Now given that these animals are CARNIVORES and as an adult could easily kill and EAT a human, is it really the best idea to take the innate fear of humans out of this cub which could be passed on to other cute little polar bears and so on... ? Food for thought!

he is born in a zoo, will live in a zoo his whole life, human contact at this point is not affecting him any more than it already would have. At least with him being in the spotlight more people will care about him and other polar bears.

Ain't that funny...everyone admires how cute this particular polarbear cub is...and obviously all ignore the fact that due to humans polluting our planet which leads to the pack ice not being "packed"anymore, his relatives in the wild start eating each other...but hey, who cares when he is just soooo cute....

Dichotomi is a genius! Obviously, any people this bear would ever see in it's natural habitat, probably researchers or documentary filmmakers, are an immediate threat to the bears because of global warming. Were it to ever come into contact with them, I should hope it would immediately maul them to death and eat them to show humans the folly of their lifestyles!

I wish people would stop saying "ACTIVISTS". It was ONE person and he thinks for HIMSELF. I am an animal rights activist and I do not beleive knut should be euthanized.

Kno doubt Knut is adorable, adorable; I wish the day would come when man could understand that animals are not here for our viewing-in-a-cage-pleasure. We took it upon ourselves to imprison them in captivity and we just do not have that right.

Why is "cuteness" the indicator of whether something should be kept alive or not? I take umbrage with that reasoning. Life is life. God created it and we are here to be good stewards of it. You shouldn't need to be an "activist" to concerned about them. Let me toss out a bomb for you to consider: Animals don't have "rights." Rather, animals are here for our pleasure and benefit but are meant to be taken care of, not exploited, killed for sport, and abused.

While I agree this animal is incredibly cute, if this bear was rejected by it's mother in the wild, the truth is that it would die. That's what is called natural selection. I can see that the animal activist maybe had a point, but it's funny how an animal activist, much like a political activist, leans so far one way that they come around from the other side.

Why on Earth would anyone want to kill such a beautiful animal who is just as deserving of life as anyone else. Loved the photos; absolutely gorgeous.

This baby bear should be saved and fed and kept alive. He is beautiful and amazing. Thank you to all those taking care of him and protecting his life.
